BIOLOGY - PERIOD 4 - Friday, September 21st

It has come to my attention that many of you may not have been able to get the Home Learning assignment from last class because the handouts were not in the packets or posted on the board. I am truely sorry about this. Those of you who checked out my Teacher Website would have gotten the assignment.

For those of you who did not get the writing prompt ahead of time, I would like you to read it below, spend a few minutes thinking about it, and come back to the computer and make your post.

HOPEFULLY, all has worked out well and you are have the handout in the plastic sheet on your desk. IF NOT, what I would like to happen is this: I would like the first one or two people from class who log onto blog to set up the middle computer with my Webpage and bring up the work for today. You will have to partner up and send one partner to the computer to take notes on the assignments that you will be doing today and what the Home Learning is. THANKS!!!!!

Here is the writing prompt (last night's Home Learning assignment).

I call it Food for Thought:

Reflect for a few minutes on this quote - "We are Children of Sunshine; We are what we Eat!"

In 1 (one) sentence or more, make a list of your favorite photosynthetic autotrophic producers that you enjoy eating.

HINT: Think green. :)

ADVICE: With this post, it actually closely follows the book work from last class. If you did not read and complete the specific book work from last class, then I would strongly recommend doing that first. Otherwise you may be listing favorite foods such as green spaghetti, green jelly beans, or green fruit loops. These answers would NOT be demonstrating to me that you understand what a photosynthetic autotrophic producer is.

The purpose of this Home Learning/Blog writing prompt is for me to see if you can take what you already know, what you read in the book, and what you have discussed with your classmates, and convince me that you understand how you are a child of sunlight based on certain foods that you eat!

GOOD MORNING STUDENTS!

I sincerely hope that all of you are looking at the lesson plan in the plastic on your desk. I apologize for the confusion last class.

Kudos to you because you all took initiative and stepped up to the expectation I have of you to use your time wisely and constructively in class.

Can I ask a favor of everyone in Per 4? There is a typo on the handout. For today's jumping mouse reading it is only 1 page: page 8.

Can everyone please WRITE in that change on their handout and slide it back in the cover?

THANKS!!!!

Hi students, I will read your recent posts right now and comment. Here are my comments to all of you who posted LAST CLASS. If you want to see what you wrote, then return to Wednesday's post and you can scroll up to see your comment and scroll down to read mine. I am using only student ID's - so please make sure you include your ID #.

0644270 - yes! indeed! i also enjoy watching them for at least 10 minutes every morning when i first get to the classroom. we are going to study stimulus more in detail next week... get ready!

5541017 - thank you for providing specific details about HOW they change. i am dying to know, are they the front or back legs or all four legs that have come out?

4858398 - yes, have you observed one specific aspect of them that has changed?

0560856 - can you give me one example of in what way they have grown?

0013124 - what you have described is more commonly referred to as metamorphosis, although you could make an argument for stimulus. i see stimulus as more being a response mechanism. now, given what you have said about growing could be argued as the response to the stimulus of eating.... if you eat food, the digestive tract will digest it and then the tadpole will grow. what do you think? please tell how you think stimulus and metamorphosis are the same and what makes them distinct or different. thanks

4727262 - please give me one interesting detail of how they are growing and developing

4757350 - yesterday i created a post on the difference between evolution and metamorphosis. please read it. what you have described is actually called metamorphosis

5584249 - exactly. what is the greatest evidence to you that these little buggers are metamorphosing?

4748648 - you have an artistic writing style using type. please read my clarification post on the difference between evolution and metamorphosis. it's the second post listed on Sept 20

9297202 - exactly, and can you give me a specific detail to support this observation? thanks

5688356 - i would like you to please take a look at the post called Evolution vs. Metamorphosis. Get back with me on what you understand these two words are. thanks

0604852 - can you please elaborate? in what way are you referring to cells? i want to understand what you mean. please tell me what a cell is to you. this will help me out. thanks (ps-do you speak spanish? if so, explicame en espanol, por favor)

5721403 - thanks for the hello! hello back at you! I hope that everything went again smooth for you this morning. sorry about the goof-ups on my part. as for the drawing, algae is quite a challenge!! even for the scientists! so if you made the attempt, that is what counts. you may or may not get better at it. no worries. not everybody wants to learn. but i will give the students LOTS of time to practice and get good if they want to get good. the skill that you have develop is called observation. once you learn how to actually, really "SEE" an organism or an object, then drawing it becomes easy and secondary. i plan to over this semester, teach my students to really know what it means to Observe something for what it is. And the only way to learn is to practice.

0091528 - yes, i think that i am understanding you. could you explain to me what you mean when you say "they are working with that in class"? tell me what metamorphosis means to you. (ps-do you speak spanish? if so, diga me en espanol - esto le va a ayudarme entender lo que estas pensando)

0235328 - thank you for your comments. i agree that drawing algae is very difficult. i am glad that you find enjoyment in activities even if they are difficult. i wrote a comment above to 5721403 about the art of drawing algae. check it out... that way i will not type it all in twice. fyi-this post is a great hello, but it will not get you the homework grade because i do not see the answer to the question.

sexy cuban girl - please give me your id - i have no way to grade you based on your gender and what country you are from. can you please tell me one specific example of how the tadpole has changed?

0150174 - perceptive insights on DNA. we are going to spend a great deal of time on this topic of genetics and heredity soon. by the way, can you please translate this for me? "n e ways ttyl"

0241016 - accurate use of commas in your writing. very clear how you have expressed your thoughts

OK - Thank you very much. I will track down that hand out during 2nd lunch. You can always get the details from online at the teacher website.

Bummer, bummer, bummer... that you are frustrated. I am so sorry.

THANK YOU for being such a well behaved class. I am blessed that you are all so well mannered and well disciplined. I really appreciate it.

When you do get the work, just jump in on the assignments for next Tuesday. If you have extra time, then look back at the little activities that I prepared for you for today and last class.

THANKS!
